Persistence

Most applications today require some form of persistence mechanism. In general when one speaks of saving data some where, a database is the first word or thought that comes to the conversation. Yet, there are other ways to persist data including:

– Flat File (csv, xml, json, yml, properties)
– Database (in memory)
– Traditional RDBMS (Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server)
– Not only SQL (MongoDB, CouchDB, Hadoop)
